Perfect spot for a relaxing stay to visit Edinburgh. Thank you Kate and John for providing a wonderful place to stay as our family enjoyed several days touring Edinburgh and the surrounding areas. We couldn’t have asked for a more cozy and warm home to return to and highly recommend it for folks looking for a more relaxing environment away from the crowds of downtown. If you have a car can drive to Edinburgh. This is the perfect place. You have countryside and city in your hands. Perfect place for our family. Host are really friendly. We stayed in the Bothy for 5 nights it is located in beautiful surroundings and well located for trips into Edinburgh etc. We were a family of 4 and we had plenty of room. Great facilities, plenty of everything you need and a lovely welcome basket greeted us on arrival. Kate and John were on hand if needed. Highly recommend and I’m sure we’ll be back again. Our stay at this Airbnb was simply fantastic! Everything was exactly as it was described and even better. From the moment of booking to departure, we felt completely comfortable and well looked after. The house was in a prime condition and left nothing to be desired. There was even little touches that made our stay even more enjoyable. The fireplace was already prepared and you just had to turn it on. The landlords were extremely nice and accommodating and offered us their help right away, we should need something. We were more than satisfied with our stay and can fully recommend this Airbnb. We absolutely loved staying at Kates bothy! First of all, the location was heavenly – the perfect Scottish home away from home. A Scottish Treasure: The Walstone Bothy receives our highest recommendation! Since I had never been to Scotland before, I wasn’t sure what to expect when we made the long journey from Texas…but Kate and John made us feel so very welcome, and the Bothy is both spacious and quite comfortable. So peaceful and quiet in the midst of the Scottish countryside…and yet not far from every convenience, including Tesco, Boots, and the park & ride into Edinburgh. We enjoyed our private walk with the sheep in nearby lovely Ninemileburn on one day, and on others we made the easy trip into Edinburgh to see the sights there. Our friends from London joined us for part of our holiday, and they, too, found the Bothy to be an exceedingly pleasant place to stay, including for their little three-year-old son.
Even the weather was spectacular…beautiful sunrises and sunsets…and a gorgeous mix of fog, mist, rain, blue skies, sunshine, & ever-changing clouds…and all the fall colors in the leaves of bronze, copper, and gold are not to be missed.

Absolutely amazing. We loved every minute of staying in the bothy. It was the perfect location for us to get out and explore. Walstone Bothy – Rural, City Access and Beaches not far!

Walstone Bothy is my idea of perfect holiday accommodation. Well equipped, comfortable, neat and tidy and offers 2 bathrooms! I loved the basket of Scottish treats and milk/butter in the fridge along with kitchen necessities like washing up liquid and dish washer tabs etc which meant i didn’t have to worry about those small details. The Bothy also had its own vac which i like because we could easily keep on top of keeping the accommodation tidy. As for the location we had dogs and whilst the Bothy is surrounded by fields it was better to put the dogs into the car and drive out for a walk. I would definitely recommend Penicuik House – a fabulous estate where you can walk miles and just 5 mins down the road by car. Another big plus was the Park & Ride which was about 20 mins down the road which offered an easier way to access the city of Edinburgh. The Park & Ride was also opposite a retail park with M&S Simply Food making dinner decisions easy. Kate and John were responsive to any request we made and on hand when we had an issue with the hot water which got solved within a few hours! Perfect. Carolyn, July 2022

First class from start to finish. 
Communications from Kate were prompt and helpful with details about the house, check-in process and lots of ideas for places to visit. 
Accommodation is excellent, lots of lovely touches like toiletries, store cupboard items and a wonderful welcome basket. All the bed linen, towels, etc were of a high quality. 
Nice sheltered outdoor area with plenty of seating, table and bbq. 
The Bothy will comfortably accommodate six adults unlike so many other rentals thst have insufficient seating. There is a generous dinning table, two sofas and an armchair. 
Great location The Bothy is at the foot of the Pentland Hills which provide great walks, Edinburgh and Glasgow under an hours drive. Plenty of amenities within 10 mins drive in Penicuik. 
Kate and John were on hand for any queries and are great hosts.

This is by far the best Air bnb we have stayed in. The communication from Kate prior to arrival was excellent, and she was very kind dropping messages whilst we were staying about problems on roads etc. The accommodation at The Bothy is faultless. Spacious living accommodation, kitchen stocked with essentials and a lovely welcome basket. Bedding and towels beautifully laundered, and the place was spotless and tastefully decorated. Easy drive into Edinburgh, we used both Park & Ride service and the car park at Fountain Park, both without issue. Also explored Pentland Hills and West Linton which were lovely, and not something we would have done if we had stayed in the city. It was lovely to be able to retreat to The Bothy after a day sightseeing, and it suited the whole family, 10-73 years. Would not hesitate to recommend, and would revisit in a heartbeat. Kate & Co were amazing hosts! We stayed as my brothers and I were running the Edinburgh marathon. This stay was perfect location being 20/25mins drive from both the start and finish line. We also took our dogs with us and Kate was kind enough to have a thorough pack put together with several local dog friendly walks nearby. Not to mention details of nearby takeaway and local amenities. Everything about our stay was perfect. Nice little private garden area to ourselves with comfortable furniture and bbq as well as very strong wifi. We had a wonderful short stay at Kate and John’s place in the borders. An immaculate place, beautifully furnished, and really very spacious considering it’s a ‘Bothy’! Checking in was a breeze, and there were lots of lovely, thoughtful, hospitable touches throughout the house which was kitted out with everything you could need. It was also a totally perfect location for us to attend our friend’s wedding, and Kate and John were very patient and accommodating when we had to rearrange the date several times because of the pandemic. Walstone Bothy was very welcoming and comfortable with plenty of space for our party of 4 adults and 2 infants. Kate contacted us before our visit to check how we would like the bedrooms arranged and provided a travel cot for one of the children. Any questions we had were responded to quickly and our hosts were happy to provide any local information we needed. The Bothy was in an ideal location for the event we were attending at New Hall Estate and the Tesco at Penicuik is only 5 minutes drive away. The bothy is awesome, like a tardis it may look small on the outside but it opens up to a beautiful open plan living space, two full bathrooms and three good sized bedrooms. The place was immaculate and very well stocked – the hosts also left us some essentials and a few treats to enjoy. The location is amazing, you can see the Pentland Hills from the window so there are tonnes of amazing walking opportunities nearby as well as being a short drive from Edinburgh. Kate (the host) was very responsive to messages and checked to see that we had everything we needed whilst staying. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and will certainly be looking to return! My bridesmaids and I stayed here the night before my wedding at Glencorse House and it was absolutely perfect. We loved our stay at the Bothy. It is perfectly situated in a small quiet steading at the foot of the magnificent Pentland Hills, with direct access to the trails which are ideal for walking, running and mountain biking. The Bothy is tastefully decorated with plenty of space to relax for our family of four and our dog. The kitchen is very well equipped, so we cooked our own meals most nights. The bothy was the perfect place to stay for our group of 6 & dog over a long weekend. Kate and John were fantastic hosts – We had a lovely time exploring the country parks and local walks near the bothy that were recommended by Kate. The Bothy was a gem of a find for our family mini trip away from our “concrete jungle” location. Location of the Bothy to Edinburgh was around 20mins which was ideal. The Bothy is really a wonderful place, remote , yet close enough to Edinburgh if you like more of an urban feel. The Pentlands close by are stunning and wonderful for walks. The house is equipped with everything and has a cosy atmosphere.
